Maristany is head of the radiology service at the San Joan de Deu Hospital and is known as one of the pioneers in breast cancer screening in Catalonia, according to a press release issued by the Spanish Society of Radiology (SERAM). She has worked extensively on investigating false negatives.

During a ceremony, she spoke about how radiology has evolved. "We are also doctors, we protect the patient and we evaluate the whole person," she said.

Maristany emphasized the importance of the radiologist in research into new biomarkers. "In the future, we are heading towards having a more precise and personalized diagnosis with the help of new techniques and artificial intelligence."

She also welcomed the arrival of green radiology, particularly greater teleworking, recycling, consuming less energy, etc. More home examinations, in which the technician comes to the patient's home to carry out an examination, will be made possible by 5G cellular networks, she said.
