U.K. groups outline new plan on quality

August 18, 2023 -- The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and College of Radiographers (CoR) are ending their agreement with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to pursue a new direction for their jointly owned quality standard for imaging (QSI).

In a statement issued on 17 August, the colleges said that while they are grateful for the work that UKAS has provided, the new direction for the QSI aims to accelerate a "more responsive, dynamic, and inclusive approach" to working with imaging services to improve quality. This will include a U.K.-wide QSI Quality Improvement Network designed to improve peer learning and good practice.

RCR and CoR said the network will also use an endorsement plan. They "anticipate" that will operate on a three-year cycle that focuses on comprehensive evaluation against QSI requirements and interim consideration of the aspects of the standard.

The colleges also said the plan will be fully operational from 1 July 2024, and that they will provide a fast-track admission process for those services currently accredited by UKAS that wish to participate in the colleges' plan.
