Novel research project to use 'swarm learning' for AI

By AuntMinnieEurope.com staff writers

February 3, 2023 -- A new European Union research project called the Open Consortium for Decentralized Medical Artificial Intelligence (ODELIA) has been launched to use a technique called "swarm learning" to develop artificial intelligence (AI) for healthcare applications.

Swarm learning allows for AI model training without having to use personal patient data, the consortium said. ODELIA will build a swarm learning open-source software framework; the first application of the software will be for detection of breast cancer on MRI.

The project will be administered at the University Hospital Aachen and Technische Universität Dresden, both in Germany, and it will run from January 2023 to December 2027.
