Seebohm's appointment follows the passing of Nicole Denjoy in June 2021. She joins the COCIR from the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), for which she also served as secretary general.

Issues she will address in the new role will include the COCIR's contribution to COVID-19 recovery across the fields it serves, implementing Europe's Beating Cancer Plan, helping to establish the European Health Data Space, and deploying the Innovative Health Initiative, COCIR said.

Annika Eberstein has been serving as the interim COCIR secretary general since July 2021.
